Retina will help bring your plans to life, from early design explorations, planning applications, and property marketing material.

Retina Images is owned and run by me, Stephen Whitton.

I’ve been producing architectural CGI and photomontages since the early 1990s, which is quite a long time when you say it out loud.

Back then, the methodology for accurate visual representation in planning submissions was still being figured out as a discipline, and I was lucky enough to be involved in some of that early work on large London submissions, including One Hyde Park, St Giles’ Court and various towers in the City. Projects where the imagery was looked at very carefully and had to stand up in formal planning processes.

That work eventually led to something I hadn’t anticipated with being asked to advise the Greater London Authority on their supplementary guidance for the London View Management Framework. The LVMF sets out how development proposals are assessed against protected views across London, and getting the visual methodology right is central to how that guidance works in practice.

That experience shapes how I think about every project, whatever the scale. The discipline of getting things right doesn’t really vary depending on the size of the project.

Retina is based in Boston, Lincolnshire. We work across the UK, but I know the planning landscape in Lincolnshire and the East Midlands reasonably well, which can be useful on local projects where that familiarity with context matters.

I ask a lot of questions before I start anything. That’s just how I work. The image needs to do something specific, and it helps to understand what that is before producing a single frame.
